For the few games Reicast will not play (mostly because it doesn‘t support WinCE games yet), you can hex-patch the game and play it on Demul. We would recommend using our cheats-archive and set Retroarch to autoload cheats on game startup. In the case of Reicast (Retrorch with Reicast-Core), you can rely on the Retroarch built-in cheat-engine. At least when you are using one of the later two. If you‘re playing your games on an emulator (such as Reicast, Demul or Redream), Hex-patching would be the way to go. We recommend HxD for this, because it can handle big files with no problems.Ģ. If you own a GDEMU (which can load GDI-Images) or have a selfbootable CDI-Image of your game, then you‘re better off patching those images with a hex-editor. If you want to play the original copies of your games on a real dreamcast, you have to use a Codebreaker disc, enter the codes and boot the game with it. Deciding on which way would be the better for you depends on how you want to play your games.ġ. Hex-Patches change the actual data of the game itself permanently. Codebreaker-Codes alter the game‘s code in memory, leaving the game itself untouched. Either you go for a Codebreaker-Code or a Hex-Patch. Please note: Even if the game itself runs in 16:9 thanks to a code, the intro movies, logos, title screen and such will usually not be affected and appear stretched on a 16:9 display. There are still over 100 Games, that can be patched to widescreen, many of which belong to the best titles on the system. In other cases a code just hasn‘t been found yet, or the game simply has no way of modifying it in such a manor. So most 2D-Games do not have a widescreen-hack, just because of the way they are. It can not work for games, which are using static or pre-rendered backgrounds as well as bitmaps or videos, because they all have a fixed ascpect ratio. This, of course, will only work for games, which render the whole gaming world outside the 4:3 area. To achive that, one can try to manipulate the geometry of a game by basically squeezing the image together, so that when stretched on a Widescreen-TV the whole enviorment and characters will look normal.Īs you can see by the second picture above, squeezing the picture horizontly will make more area on the sides visible (represented by the two small circles). ![]() ![]() However, it is possible to alter the games to be displayed in fullscreen with their correct aspect ratio, so that the game‘s graphics are not distorted. In consequence, when displayed on a modern Widescreen-TV you have either black bars left and right or a stretched image. Only a very small handful of games have a widescreen-option (e.g. Dreamcast-Games were intended to be played on a 4:3 TV.
